EXHIBITIONS
19 degrees
My 2023 degree show exhibition at University 'Does It Hurt?' Was a multiple part exhibition that showcased four of my garment sculptures, and three of my pin-up style posters. My work leading up to this exhibition surrounded to idea of using unconventional and harsh materials to make lingerie in an effort to highlight the parallels between the pain and detriment women have had to put themselves through throughout history to be classed as 'beautiful'. These are accompanied by pin-up style posters that have snapshot satirical captions that draw attention to what the women in the posters are wearing. Despite the fact that the women are wearing these barbaric pieces, the sultry confidence that they hold themselves with takes a stand against the over-sexualisation of women for society and men, and lets them do it for themselves.
Interventions
During my second year at University we had an on-site exhibition, Interventions, at Cromford Mills. My piece for this was named 'Perigon' and consisted of a garment made and hung in front of the cave on the site, resembling a washing line. The skirt material has images of cotton farmers and cotton mill workers printed upon it, showing the full production line, ending with the garment being made.
